December the 8th is the feast of the Immaculate Conception. This is the patroness of the United States, and so it is a holy day of obligation, even when the feast day falls on Saturday, as it does this year.
There are several opportunities to go to Mass for the feast day. Since December 7th is the first Friday of the month, there will be a bilingual vigil Mass of the feast at 7p.m. on December 8th. On Saturday, the Masses will be at 9:15a.m. in English and at 11:30a.m. in Spanish.
The Mariachi Academy is offering to play the music at one of the Spanish Masses each month. Several of our parish children are members of the Academy and will be performing the music. In addition, we will have Mariachi music at the 12:30p.m. Mass on December 9th, in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Even for those who do not speak Spanish, it is a great opportunity to experience a different musical tradition at the Mass. Of course, Our Lady of Guadalupe is not just the Patroness of Mexico. She is the Patroness of all the Americas.
On December 12th, we celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the patroness of the Americas. Our Mexican parishioners have a great devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe, as do those in the Pro-Life movement.
All are invited to the serenade to the Blessed Virgin (Mananitas) on December 12th, at 5:00a.m., followed by the Mass (in Spanish), and concluding with breakfast.
