7/9/2016

Growth in Faith is an Adult Faith Formation Program for practicing or fallen away Catholics who are looking to return to the practice of their faith or to deepen their relationship with God.  Learning about God shouldn't stop after you receive all the Sacraments.  It is a life long journey in which your relationship with God grows deeper and sweeter with each passing year.

Growth in Faith Sessions are offered usually on two Tuesdays every month from September to May from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the church hall community room.  Contact Laurie DeLuca at
deluca1@comcast.net or at (860) 989-8526 for more information.

September 2016:
Catholicism: The Pivotal Players

"Discover the figures who shaped the Church and changed the world"
by Bishop Robert Barron

The Study Program for CATHOLICISM: The Pivotal Players is the best way to immerse yourself fully into these holy men and women.
You will go deeper with top experts from around the world, including:
  • Fr. Raniero Cantalamessa, Franciscan priest and preacher to the papal household (St. Francis of Assisi)
  • Dr. Matthew Levering, renowned Catholic theologian and Thomistic scholar (St. Thomas Aquinas)
  • Fr. Paul Murray, O.P., Dominican preacher and spiritual master (St. Catherine of Siena)
  • Fr. Ian Ker, world's leading Newman scholar (Bl. John Henry Newman)
  • Dale Ahlquist, founding president of the American Chesterton Society (G.K. Chesterton)
  • Dr. Anthony Esolen, professor of Renaissance English Literature at Providence College(Michelangelo)
The Study Guide commentary was compiled under the direction and approval of Bishop Barron.
Each Study Guide lesson provides details about the Pivotal Player’s life and contributions to the culture. In addition, you'll find “Questions for Understanding" that support the teaching in the video and reference Scripture verses and sections from the Catechism of the Catholic Church. You'll also find several “Questions for Application" in each lesson to help you connect the material to your own life and experience.

Walk with the Archbishop: Papal Pilgrimage 2015

9/6/2015

So that we can experience Our Holy Father’s first apostolic visit to America together as an Archdiocesan family, Archbishop Blair will keep a personal “Travelogue” of his experiences, impressions and inspirations as he travels to Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia, Sept. 22 – 27. The Archbishop will take part in this joyous occasion with more than 250 pilgrims from the Archdiocese of Hartford along with millions of worldwide participants.

In real-time, you can read or hear the Archbishop’s Travelogue at or on:
  • the Archdiocesan website www.archdioceseofhartford.org and also where you can submit your intentions and/or access a Q&A with the Archbishop.
  • Twitter where @ArchbishopBlair will use #AOHCTpilgrims .
  • the Archdiocesan Facebook Page for daily updates and photos https://www.facebook.com/ArchdioceseofHartford .
  • the Catholic Transcript website www.catholictranscript.org  .
  • WJMJ Radio (88.9 FM, Hartford 93.1 FM, Hamden and 107.1 FM, New Haven).
In addition to Archdiocesan communications channels, tune into Eternal World Television Network (EWTN) for ongoing newscasts www.ewtn.com . (Check your local cable schedule for specifics.)

Look to the October 2015 issue of the Catholic Transcript for extensive coverage of the Papal Pilgrimage, including Archbishop Blair’s Travelogue with photos.

What do you think pilgrims will gain from this experience? “To the extent that we come to the experience prayerfully and thoughtfully, we can expect a strengthening of faith, a deepening of love, and a renewal of hope. An overwhelming number of parishioners in the Archdiocese have told us that living a lifestyle characterized by the love of God and neighbor is the most important way in which we individually and collectively express our Catholic faith. The opportunity to hear an affirmation of this message from Pope Francis personally can only serve to strengthen us in our commitment to Christian living in union with other Catholics from around the world, gathered for the World Meeting of Families. Participating in the Pope’s Mass on Sunday, in particular, will be a memorable event for us all.” Archbishop Leonard P. Blair
